Chamber History
Then and Now
Today’s Grandview Area Chamber is your front door to Connections in Commerce. Officially known as the Grandview/Marble Cliff Area Chamber of Commerce, the Grandview Area Chamber was founded in 1946 as the “Grandview Area Business Association”. Its 26 founding members were an active and positive business force in the community. The first business association undertook some ambitious projects that still benefit the community: the Shelter House at Wyman Woods, street signs, and the first lights on First and Grandview Avenues. This founding group was also responsible for starting the annual Steak Fry, which has now been combined with a Golf Outing.
By the early 1980s, membership had grown to over 100, and six years later, in 1986, the Association voted to reorganize as a chamber of commerce, with financial support from the City of Grandview Heights and the Village of Marble Cliff and an office in the Grandview Municipal Building. The Chamber’s office eventually moved to 1492 King Avenue, and is now located in the lower level of 1258 Grandview Avenue, in the heart of downtown Grandview Heights.
Throughout the changes, the Chamber has continued to promote and encourage the business and professional interests in the Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff areas. The Chamber, City government, and the school district have worked together to provide communication and direction as our area continues to develop. In addition, partnerships with new civic players such as the Art Hop and the Fifth by Northwest Area Commission have created additional opportunities for continuing to enhance the community.
The Chamber’s growth is due to a number of factors: desirable member benefits Member Benefits that help business owners enjoy group savings, and a staff and involved Board of Directors who push the Chamber to new challenges.
